Styles:

Finding the right carpet style for your needs is important to us so we have come up with a guide (below) which will help you to make an informed decision when considering  the carpet that is right for your lifestyle.

Once you have chosen a style that you like you will need to consider the performance that you want to achieve from your carpet. The carpets in each of these styles are available in varying thicknesses, weights and fibres. All of these factors will affect the life and durability of your carpet.

The other very important consideration is colour. This is often the hardest and most confusing step when choosing a carpet, as each of the different styles have a broad spectrum  of colours available. Our salespeople are familiar with current trends in colour and texture so we can  help you make a decision on your carpet colour to suit your entire colour scheme.

The most popular of all styles are the Cut Pile Carpets. These are designed to give a comfortable feel underfoot with Plush Pile Carpet giving a lovely luxurious feel, while  a Twist Pile Carpet achieves a longer wear life through it's rugged design.

If durability is more important we suggest you go to the more durable Loop Pile Carpets. The traditional Berber Carpet, with the fleck, or the in vogue
Sisal Cord Carpet are renowned for their durability and appearance retention characteristics.

For rich textures and design we suggest you look at the Cut and Loop Carpets. These carpets encompass  the two styles to give you a soft carpet with the classic pattern throughout.

Below is a list of the different styles of carpet:

Plush Pile Carpet

Plush is also a level-cut pile. The yarn has a little more twist than a velvet pile carpet, and is usually set to retain this twist (water, steam, dye or chemical setting are used to set wool yarns).

Twist Pile

The hard twist style is also known as Frieze (pronounced 'freezay') or curled pile.  A cut pile style with a 'textured' finish made up of highly twisted tufts that curl
slightly at the pile surface. The yarn is tightly twisted then heat set to give textured look to the pile surface. The pile appears to lay randomly.

Cut & Loop Pile - High-Low

Also known as carved or sculptured pile, it is basically a cut pile  carpet with areas of loop pile designed into it.  Like any fashion, carpet trends
come and go. So don’t necessarily select the style that’s in this month’s home furnishing magazine

Shag

The pile tufts are very long and create a low density construction, because the spacing of the tufts is more open than other carpet constructions.

Loop Pile

A simple loop pile with tufts of equal height normally in a ‘tight’ construction using fairly fine yarn.

Sisal Cord / Modulated Loops

These names are used inter-changeably but they generally refer to a heavily textured loop pile carpet. A sisal/cord carpet has a similar look to the traditional mat
floor coverings made from plant fibers, but in carpet, it is a much more stylish and comfortable alternative. The loop lines can be either uniform height or a sequence of alternating low and high lines.

Multi-Level Loop
This is also referred to as high-low loop or sculptured loop. As these names imply, this carpet is made up of different pile heights, two or three heights being the most common. The difference in height creates  a surface that can be described as sculptured, with the pattern appearing to have been carved from the carpet.

Berber

Normally made of thicker yarns tufted into chunky loop tufts and usually of earth tones with a flecked or mottled appearance.

Sisal / Cord

These names are used inter-changeably but they generally refer to a heavily textured loop pile carpet. A sisal/cord carpet has a similar look to the traditional  mat floor coverings made from plant fibres, but in carpet, it is a much more stylish and comfortable alternative. The loop lines can be either uniform height or a sequence of alternating low and high lines

There are 4 types of yarn used in the production of carpets: Polypropylene, Nylon, Solution Dyed Nylon and Wool. You can also fins combination of wool, Polypropylene and Nylon in various proportions.

All of these yarns have benefits or deficiencies for a durability of carpet and can also relate to cleaning qualities.

Our expert sales staff can give a more detailed explanation of each when you visit our showroom.
